Meet the stars of 2012!
Read their stories...

Happy Quacky, New Year!  Hatchlings Katy Kate Kate, a crested Khaki Campbell duckling, and her snugly chicky siblings wish you a cozy & well-fluffed 2012.  They're celebrating "It's Okay to Be Different" month all year long.  Will you celebrate with them?
.

Attractive Mavis, a Mottled Java hen, and stately Galileo, a Single Comb White Leghorn rooster, represent opposites in  breed conservation.   Mavis' Java breed, is America's second oldest breed and considered “threatened” by The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy.   Galileo's breed, on the other hand, is one of the most commonly and abundantly bred breeds for commercial use.
 .

People are a lot like eggs.   On the outside, they come in a variety of sizes, shapes and colors.  But, on the inside, they all have a heart of gold.  Share your heart of gold and put an egg-stra cluck in someone's day.
.

As Jaffar, an Australorp mixed breed rooster, looks out over the lush pasture, I wonder if he also sees a sea of green. While the naked human eye can't, chicken eyes are able to see ultraviolet colors.  This proves very important during courtship.  Using ultraviolet vision, Jaffar can see special features and patterns in hens' feathers invisible to us.  Happy spring courting everyone!
.

How can you have spring without the occasional shower to water the flowers?  While she always loves eating all the big juicy bugs a good shower brings, Isolde, a Partridge  Silkie Bantam hen, wears a bit of a scowl when a good shower also brings a bad hair day.
.

Novo, a Barred Plymouth Rock rooster, lends a guiding presence to four cute chicks. During the three weeks that brooding hens sit night and day on their nests, the gregarious rooster goes about his usual “roosterly affairs.”  Once little chicks start hatching, though, roosters, like Novo, are gentle and protective with the precious new members of the flock.

Considering a calendar?
Here's what others say about the My Chicken Diaries wall calendar:

Loved the photo calendars. Many thanks. The photography is first rate, and though I'm not a 100% fowlophile, I found them engaging and cheerful. And they now sit in my office, so when I look up from typing, there they are, smiling and clucking at me. What a delight!
David

Thank you so much! I delivered your package to Mary and she did chuckle and wanted me to tell you that she truly enjoyed the calendar. Thank you for bringing a smile to Mary's face!!
Cece

   Andy

Your calendar is the only calendar my husband will hang in his garage.  Absolutely wonderful!
Linda
I showed it [the calendar] to the sewing bee and really enjoyed reading the stories about each chicken when I got home. LaVerne had told me how much she enjoyed your calanders - now I see why.
Thanks
Pat

We have some people who are growing very fond of their exotic fowl that change with each month. We would like a couple of dozen.
Grant

I about peed my pants laughing at the entries in every single day of this calendar. Did you know there's a real National Nothing Day? A lot of work went into creating this calendar, including the photos which feel more like fun family snapshots instead of posed pictures.

Cundy

I am so honored to hang this calendar.  I have each year and have saved them to share with my grandkids when they visit.

Veline, Sweet Veline, a  Norwegian Jaerhon hen, is a woman of amazing talents.   If she's hungry and you're slow getting breakfast out, she can stir you into action by flying onto your head and then walking on your back while you scoop food.  If you're feeling sad, she gives wonderful chicken hugs.  And, thankfully, when winter days are short, Veline, Sweet Veline continues laying eggs while most other hens have gone on “egg laying vacations.”

.

Soltano, a non-bearded White Crested Black Polish rooster, is our rooster look-alike for Walt Disney's character, Cruella de Vil. Like Cruella, Soltano has a lively, animated personality. However, when people see Soltano, instead of frowning, they get great big smiles on their faces.  Do you?
.

“Yikes!” thinks beautiful Sharon, a Black Sex-Link hen, “If I were a rooster, I'd have black and white striped feathers and look a bit like a jail bird!”  The term sex-link means cockerel (male) chicks can be quickly separated from pullets (females) by their coloring.  Specifically, only Black Sex-Link cockerels have white feathers on their heads.  Color differences continue through adulthood.

.

In honor of World Farm Animal Day, we introduce our newest family members, goslings, Lizzie, a Chinese White, and Razor, an African Grey.  The ever talkative Lizzie lets Razor know that sitting in the food is not good manners, even for geese.  At just a day old, Razor is not entirely sure what all the cheeping's about.

.

Photogenic Miss Latrice, a year old Mille Fleur d'Uccle Bantam hen, is happy to pose for your pictures, even willing to eat from your hand, but when it comes to resting on your lap, spirited Miss Latrice quickly shows you her flighty side.  This Thanksgiving, she'll be dining with her fine feathered friends at their favorite spot under the willow tree.
.

Breakfast in the chicken yard is a time for appreciating the interdependent web of life in which we all play a part -  armed, winged, pawed and hoofed alike .  We're reminded that December is a time of sacred moments treasured by many and celebrated in countless ways. May  lovingkindness for all live in our hearts and guide us through the year ahead.  amen

A hot joke for a fowl day
or
A fowl joke for a hot day

Q. Why did the farmer feed ice cubes to her flock?

A. It was so hot outside, she was afraid the hens would lay boiled eggs.

Ha Ha Now that's one cluck of a joke!
