We are so pleased that our educational outreach has grown. We've had scout troops, pre-school groups, Mom's Club outings, family outings, school field trips and adult classes visit the farm. Chickadoo Suz has taken her feathered ambassadors to library story times and scout troop meetings sharing her eggspanding passion with curious young minds. Rooster Ron joined her at school science fairs, fundraising festivals and other community outreach activities.
Spring 2011, we donated several dozen eggs to Northe Pointe Elementary School for their chick hatching science project. The hatched chicks, mixed breeds from three different farms, taught students and teachers about incubation and natural diversity. Our spring 2012 baby chicks will arrive from the hatchery in March, just in time to delight new storytelling sessions and farm tour group. Fall is here and the North Pointe chicks are becoming adults. The pullets are starting to lay eggs, the cockerels starting to crow and, just like the year, another life cycle is nearing completion. Yes, it's been a fun and educational year.

With our clever hens, some choose to lay eggs around the farm, rather than in the henhouse nesting boxes, truly turning every day into an egg hunt!
During a day on the farm, Rayven, Braden and Skylar lent their skill at egg hunting, finding a nest of eggs under an old wheelbarrow and then cleaning and placing them in cartons. Always great to have egg-cited help! Meet Fern, our most unconventional egg-laying hen and read other egg-citing stories on our Eggbits page

YYY . When is my favorite time in the chicken yard? Morning and evening, and times sharing our adventure with others. Guess that makes it just about anytime. I do love the evenings Ron and I spend out on the glider chatting with "the kids". No phones, TV's or computers. Truly a peace of Chicken Heaven.
When corn accidentally lands on Billy, a Pymgy goat's back, his feathery sister, Amajee, a Light Brahma hen, quite willingly lends her helping claws. She eagerly hops onto Billy's back and starts scratching and pecking. Billy, happy for the help also gets a wonderfully relaxing back scratch as Amajee claws around for the tasty, hidden morsels. Aaaahhh. August 7 is International Friendship Day. What will you do to show a friend you care?Rula Dula Duck, a day old Crested Rouen Duckling, chats with her hatchery sister, Omara, a Layorca Pullet.
In six short months, Rula has grown into a lovely full sized duck hen and joins our quacky flock. Soon she will be laying an occasional duck. Yum, yum and thank you, Miss Rula Dula! xo .
