Everyone loves a great story, and we hope you will enjoy our collection of chicken yard stories and assorted capers. Some will make you laugh and smile and others, well, you might need a tissue or two, but it's all part of a day in the life of a chicken lover.

My Chicken Diaries

You've have arrived at the page for which this website, My Chicken Diaries was named.  It has links to my actual random and periodic diary entries.  Some are stories, musings, poetry or previous blog entries.  I hope you find one the tickles you or moves you in a special way.  If so, this website has served it's intended purpose and my nest is well feathered.

It has been said that "God talks to me through my chickens."  (Yes I know how strange, eggcentric this all sounds, and while I don't recall asking for it, but it seems to be true for me.)

My diaries are my writings serious inspirations as well as humorous encounters.  Some storiesare recollections and relevations, my cosmic, soul-full messages, from our hours, days and years of living with chickens.

Some people may say I have too much time on my hands if I'm talking with chickens and writing it down.  Some people have suggested this habit makes me certifiably and hopelessly chickified, an eggentric and a feathery personality.  I couldn't agree more!  And , I bet you could use some free time to sit and talk to a chicken now and then, too.   They are great listeners, except the crowing roosters.

Some days I take to putting these inspirations into words.  I try to match a picture of one of our animal children, to the story.

If something you find here inspires, moves or otherwise affects you, I love to hear from you by email to diaries@mychickendiaries.com

peace, love and eggs,
       Suzanne

Meet Jesse

Isn't he divine?

Jesse was our first rooster, a light Brahmaby breed.  Hestood almost 2 feet tall and was quite a gentleman to his group of lady friends, the hens who spent the days with him.  When he found food, he'd call them over and then step back and let them eat.  When we threw out food, he'd always let the women eat first, also.

He was VERY friendly and would walk along side sometimes brushing his comb against my finger tips.  And his deep baritone crow was wonderfully distinguished, almost like he was singing a song to you.

Sadly, Jesse caught a virus during the summer of 2004 while we were away and by the time we returned, all the love could not save him.

He is dearly missed.

If you've enjoyed the diaries entries, we invite you to explore

My Chicken Diaries blog hosted by the Houston Chronicle

It's our way of keeping our internet family abreast of what's happening here on the farm.   Blog entries are more extemporaneous and cover a broader range of topics, sometimes directly sometime more indirectly related to the charming world of chickens.

And, when you visit our blog, please add your feedback, comments and questions.  We love hearing from you!

May your nest eggs hatch beyond your wildest dreams.
